Beware the paint man

Dear editor, Ladies, if you are driving a vehicle with some body damage you might be approached by a tall, dark-complexioned man driving a large black truck who will offer to save you money, fix your paint job (on the spot), like new, for considerable cash.

He apparently carries a good supply of sanding material and lots of cans of spray paint. He will work fast, take his cash and you, like me, will realize your vehicle is a mess. Mine looks like the work of a child. The paint does not match; it is dull and rough and over-spray to surrounding areas is extensive. I was gullible. Don’t let it happen to you.

" I was approached on Jefferson Street last year by a man with his wife and two daughters in the car. He said he worked for an Autobody shop in San Jose and needed extra work to support his family (all staring at me from his car). He wanted to fix the dent in the back of my car for $300. When I said no, he kept lowering the price until it captured my interest. Fortunately, I was able to call my husband from my cell phone to check the guy out. Big Surprise, the company did not exist. Beware.... if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! "

" I remember hearing something about this, though I dotn remember if it was on the register or the local news. I think it was happening down in the bay area somewhere. I agree with quiet one....Its it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I always take my car to one body shop here in town, regardless if someone has hit me, or it just needs some touching up. Never trust someone that just approches you on the street. Use common sense! "

" I find it hard to believe that anyone is gullible enough to fall for street scam artists. Common sense tells you to only do business with known establishments. "
